Keep up to date with all that's happening!
This morning Year 4 performed their end of term concert for their families and the Year 3 children. There was also an amazing solo performance from a Year 5 pupil. Some of the children were a little nervous at first but they soon overcame this once their performance started. The room was alive with their musical talents enabling them to showcase all they have learned this year. I’m sure that all those who were able to come and watch enjoyed this enormously and were very proud of everyone taking part. Also, thank you for supporting your children with their brass instruments at home this year. We hope that they will continue their love of music in the future.
What a brilliant experience for our Year 1 and 2 pupils this evening!
We are so proud of how they worked together and supported each other in the evening’s games. We hope they enjoyed the experience!
It was great to see them playing with smiles on their faces and showcasing their skills! Well done everyone.
Here are some pictures from tonight’s event.
What a gorgeous day we have had today! They were able to showcase their fantastic knowledge about rivers including the parts of the river, the processes of erosion and deposition as well as identifying creatures using a classification chart.
This morning, the children completed two activities: pond dipping and identifying creatures using classification charts, and identifying the parts of the river followed by measuring the speed at which the water was flowing by racing ducks! It was a really informative morning and the children blew me away with how much they knew!
We then had lunch and reapplied our suncream βοΈ
After lunch, we went to a different section of the river to measure the width and depth of the water at 50cm intervals. The children then searched the river bed for different stones: some found pieces of quartz which they were allowed to take home with them too.
Well done Year 4 π«Άπ»
What an important visit to crucial crew we have had this afternoon!
The children attended 7 workshops which all had key messages about how to stay safe. These included how to help someone who is unconscious by shouting for help and putting them in the recovery position; the importance of staying AWAY from train tracks; the impact antisocial behaviour has on others; examples of crime and the punishments for this including carrying a knife; road safety and the importance of wearing helmet and hi-viz clothing; online safety and cyberbullying including the importance of only speaking to FRIENDS online and to turn location settings OFF; how to use the bus network safely, reminding the children of how to access help if they need to call a parent or guardian from the station; and, the impact drugs and alcohol can have on their bodies.
There were some tough messages today and the reality of what can happen if the children do not follow the rules we have in place to keep them safe. We discussed how the procedures we follow in school and the rules put in place at home are to keep them safe - even if it does seem like we’re nagging them at times! A very informative trip and a great afternoon.
On Wednesday, we have had a visitor in school to help the children learn about road safety. The children throughly enjoyed the interactive session and meeting the puppets! The children were taught important road safety skills. They talked about ways to walk safely near the road such as holding hands and looking and listening for dangers. They talked about important clothing that we can wear near the road so we can be seen. They also learnt about the Green Cross Code - Stop, Look and listen.π
What a super success World Book Day has been! As part of our celebrations, each class has looked at different inspirational women and created various pieces of work relating to this. The children also took part in a slumber party with their class and exchanged a mystery book- some even had to raffle their books based on what they found interesting about the wrapping βΊοΈ each child returned home with their gifted book and plenty of smiles. Lots of fun was had in all the classes and the children had an amazing day π€©
This afternoon Year 1 went to Lilford Park to carry out some geography fieldwork. We were so impressed at how far they all walked! We think you might have some sleepy children tonight! π΄π΄ The children behaved impeccably and were super smiley throughout. They were a pleasure to spend time with. π
Whilst at the park we carried out some data collection. This term we have been talking about how people spend their leisure time. We observed people in the park and the ways that they used the park for leisure time. We gathered this information using a tally chart and we will transfer this data into a pictogram.
We also thought about how different people would like to use the park depending on different age categories. The children put themselves in the shoes of other people and used the masks to view the park through the eyes of a grandma/grandad, teen boy/girl and a child girl/boy.
Our final activity was to spot some human and physical features during our walk. We will use this information to make a map of Lilford Park in class next week,
Before we headed back to class, we had time for a treat snack and a play on the playground.
What a brilliant afternoon in the sunshine! ππ
What a performance we got to see today! It was AMAZING!
I’m sure the children will tell you all about it; we were able to use our knowledge of the Tudor history to answer questions throughout and it was great to hear the historical tales told in such a funny and entertaining way!
We had singing, dancing, chants, actions and even got to wear 3D glasses whilst things zoomed towards us! There was lots of laughter and screaming at that point πππ»
A great day out - the children were fantastic and so sensible throughout. Well done team! ππ»
Good afternoon,
What a brilliant day we have had at Bolton Museum!
We spent the morning looking at the Bolton history and natural history exhibits. We then explored the aquariums and the art galleries. The children showed great interest in sketching some of the artefacts and produced some great work.
After lunch we had a workshop all about the ancient Egyptians- the educator leading the session was blown away by the childten’s knowledge and their ability to articulate their understanding! We finished the workshop with a tour around a replica of Thutmose III’s tomb- a great experience as we learned that hieroglyphics on the walls told the story of a Pharaoh’s journey to the afterlife.
A brilliant visit to finish our topic on ancient Egypt!
This morning, we have had a great opportunity to go to a local mosque in Leigh to complete our RE unit about Islam. We had an opportunity to learn more about Islam and the experience of Wudu. We went into the prayer hall and the Arabic classroom where the children experience what it would be like to prayer and learn Arabic.
Well done Year 3, and we hope that the children enjoyed their morning.
